Nāpoʻopoʻo Ancient Village site in Waipiʻo Valley The largest ancient village in Waipiʻo Valley, Nāpoʻopoʻo is located below the famous Hiʻilawe Waterfall and still lined with the kuʻauna (rock walls surrounding taro patches) that have been dated back to being built between 800 -1200 AD. There are over 400 taro patches in the area and 43 platforms where homes once stood.

The name Pōhāhā I Ka Lani is inspired by lines in the Kumulipo, the Hawaiian Creation Chant. It was chosen by founder Kūlia Kauhi Tolentino-Potter and her makuakāne (father), James Tolentino Jr., for itʻs layered meanings, with itʻs meaning still driving the continued efforts of the organization.
